Legendary Journeys

According to Hercules, there were Seven Temples of Hera in Greece. After the goddess murdered his wife and children, Hercules vowed to destroy them all (HTLJ "The Wrong Path").

There was a temple to Hera near Flagra. It was there that Pallaeus was given a sacred Mandrake in hopes of killing Hercules (HTLJ "What's in a Name?").

In Hera's temple near Thebes, the goddess created the Enforcer II. Hercules defeated the Enforcer II in the temple (HTLJ "Not Fade Away").

Behind the Scenes[]

  • A temple of Hera is known as a Heraion, the most prominent and oldest of which was the one on the island of Samos.
  • The conceit of the Seven Temples was probably an early attempt to give Hercules a goal. As the paramount goddess of the Greeks, Hera had far more than seven temples, and was worshipped throughout the Greek world.
