Sarah was the daughter of Lila and the niece of Gabrielle.
During the time that Xena and Gabrielle were in their 25-year sleep, Potedia was raided by the warlord Gurkhan. During the raid, Lila's parents and husband were killed and her daughter, Sarah, was kidnapped and became one of Gurkhan's wives.
When Gabrielle visits Lila years later, she informs her of the events that happened. Gabrielle is filled with vengeance and sets out to get her back. They eventually find that Sarah, under the name Sonata, has become Gurkhan's favoured wife, preserving her position through acts of cold-hearted brutality. Xena and Gabrielle hatch a plan that causes the death of Gurkhan at the hands of his own men and the rescue of all of his wives. Sarah is returned home and reunited with her mother.
