The Phoenix Cave was located on a mountain, not far from Cheiron's Academy. It was home to the Chalice of Zeus and guarded by the Phoenix.
Hercules, Iolaus, and Jason visited the Cave to steal the Chalice. Hercules wanted to give it to his father to get Zeus' attention. They retrieved it but were nearly killed by a fiery booby trap. Removing the Chalice awakened the Phoenix which pursued the trio ("The Treasure of Zeus: Part 1").
Later, Iolaus and Jason return the Chalice to the Cave just in time to stop Ares from killing Hercules in retribution for stealing it. The heroes need to defeat two of Hera's guards in order to restore the Chalice to its stone altar ("What a Crockery: The Treasure of Zeus, Part 3"}.
