A Mandrake is a root that is sacred to Hera. It may also refer to a deadly lizard-like creature that sprouts from the root. Hera once caused such a creature to be born of a Mandrake root in hopes that it would kill Hercules. With the help of Iolaus, Hercules managed to hold the creature down and chain all four of its limbs. Once it was thus restrained, it disappeared.
