The Katana was a weapon used by Xena to defeat Yodoshi. It was the only weapon with the power to do so, as well as the key to controlling the Fountain of Strength. Gabrielle also carries a blue handled Kanata in several scenes, and draws it for a close-up shot in the scene when she defends Xena from the Ghost Killer, who she thinks at that time is an enemy.

- In the West, "Katana" is the word applied to most forms of single-edged blade in Japan. It properly refers to a very specific type of backsword, a curved, slender, single-edged blade with a circular or squared guard and long grip to accommodate two hands. There are several other types of Japanese sword.
- It is also worth nothing that it was whilst trying to first retrieve the Katana when Xena recieved her notable scar of her right breast.
