Fat Soldier Blasted Up into Space

"Doomsday" This Character was an overweight Soldier that worked for king Nikolos. He was played by Actor/Stunt performer “Jason Tahu”. He appeared in the Hercules episode “Doomsday” Season 3 Episode 2. Although it was made clear, that the soldiers name was Halley, (as is mentioned on 2 separate occasions, in the episode) he was actually credited as “Fat Soldier Blasted Up into Outer Space”. The title relating to his fate within the episode.

LABORATORY FIGHT SCENE

He is seen fighting Hercules inside the lab owned by “Daedalus”. This soldier along with several others had started a fire within the lab, after knocking Daedalus unconscious. Hercules fights the soldier as he tries to rescue Daedalus. When the soldier attacks, Hercules punches him hard, sending the soldier backwards. The soldier falls up against one of the many objects in the lab, that is on fire. The flames ends up settling the Soldiers ass on fire. Causing him to panic and run around, desperately looking for a way to put out the fire. In his confusion, he mistakes a large cauldron filled with a highly explosive liquid for water. As he is about to set his butt into the cauldron, another soldier offscreen notices his mistake and tries to warn him that it’s not water. Shouting “Halley Nooo”, but it is already too late. The soldier barely made contact with the explosive liquid, when the flames that engulf his ass reaches the liquid, it sets of an enormous explosion. The impact of the explosion was so powerful, that it accidentally sends the poor soldier up through the roof, into the sky and finally out into outer space.

REFERENCE

When the soldier is going up and is about to enter space, 2 gravediggers notice the event. They mistake the soldier for a comet, as the soldiers ass has a long blue flame coming out of it and they witness the moment he disappears past the earth’s stratosphere. As we previously learn from another soldier that the Fat Soldier was called Halley, it is supposed to represent the real life comet called “Halley”, which can be seen from earth every 75 years. In the Hercules universe, this event is a tongue and cheek nod to the real life “Haley’s”comet. Although somewhat ridiculous, this scene is an over exaggerated and humorous way of the TV show explaining that “Halleys” comet is not in fact a comet, but just some poor fat soldier, with his ass on fire, doomed to spend the rest of eternity drifting through deep space, only to pass by earth every 75 years. Kevin Sorbos commentary on the episode, mentioned that it is ment to be Halley’s Comet origin story. Siting that although it probably comes across as silly, reminding viewers that the show has many Gods, monsters, magic and other unbelievable moments, so why not have some hapless soldier spending eternity in space with his ass on fire, it’s funny.

CONTINUITY ERROR

When the fight begins, “Jason Tahu” who plays the character of the “Fat Soldier Blasted into space” can be seen entering the lab with no sleeves, making his biceps visible. However the moment his butt explodes in flames, he is seen wearing long sleeves. This was due to the stunt he performed, as he had to be set on fire, all of his body had to be covered up for safety reasons.
