In Greek mythology, Cyane was a naiad, a nymph presiding over freshwater bodies, particularly a spring and river in Syracuse, Sicily. She is best known for her role in the abduction of Persephone by Hades. Cyane was a friend of Persephone and, witnessing Hades' attempt to kidnap her, tried to stop him, eventually being transformed into a pool by Hades in his anger, according to some accounts.
