The Blue Serpent was an enormous ocean-dwelling creature. It obeyed the commands of the Blue Priest and of Hera. It swallowed Deianeira and Hercules when they were en route to Troy and Hercules killed it by crawling through its body and wrapping himself around the serpent's heart until it stopped beating. Although impressive, the Blue Serpent was not the most dangerous sea creature who served Hera: Perfidia was larger and could make limited forays onto land, something the Blue Serpent seemed incapable of.

Trivia[]
The Blue Serpent could be loosely based on a Cetus (Ancient Greek: Κῆτος, romanized: Kêtos) is a large sea monster. Perseus slew a cetus to save Andromeda from being sacrificed to it. Later, before the Trojan War, Heracles also killed one to rescue Hesione. The term cetacean (for whale) derives from cetus. In Greek art, ceti were depicted as serpentine fish. The name of the mythological figure Ceto is derived from kētos. The name of the constellation Cetus also derives from this word. The movie's blue serpent, with its large size and aquatic nature, might with the typical imagery of the Cetus.
