- "Hail Varia! The new queen of the Amazons!"
- — An unidentified Amazon official to her fellow Amazons during Varia's incoronation ceremony[src]
An Amazon Queen was a royal title given to a supreme sovereign female leader of a certain Amazon tribe. They also served as the head of their respective tribal Councils of Elders and military leaders of their respective tribes.
The first Amazon queen was Cyane, the progenitor of the Amazon Nation who was displaced in time and was recognized as the Utma of the Tretomlec tribe.[1] Centuries later, Varia, the rightful queen of her tribe, served and became the first reigning Amazon high queen of the re-unified Nation.[4]
Description[]
The title of an "Amazon queen" was generally given and entrusted to a fellow female Amazon heir with a Rite of Caste upon the death or other unfortunate, unforeseen circumstances by a previous queen of one's respective tribe in a line of succession, who then inherited all of their predecessor's personal belongings and royal status, including a royal mask or a type of jewellery that signified their status, and was passed down from heir to heir upon their ascension to the throne.
In addition to it, each Amazon queen was granted and emblessed with a certain rare ability to communicate with other individuals via manipulating their dreams and memories.[9]

Trivia[]
- It was not known if Eve ever returned to her native tribe and took her power as the rightful leader of the Northern Amazons as Cyane was the queen of the tribe during her mid-twenties and she followed the path of redemption.
- Gabrielle was the only known Amazon who had inherited her Rite of Caste and assumed the leadership in more than one single tribe at various points in time, including the Telaquire,[6] Northern,[11] and Greek Amazons.[4] However, she later left her tribe and entrusted her crown to a worthy candidate each time as she continued traveling with Xena around the world.
- Any Amazon queen was entitled to challenge for the leadership of a different tribe.[19][2]
- Ironically, despite still then possessing the power to become the rightful leader of the Northern Amazons after killing the previous queen Cyane of the tribe, Xena failed and was unable to effectively challenge Queen Melosa who was the queen of the Telaquire tribe to a royal duel. However, she was still able to be named and fight as the champion for her close friend and Crown Princess Gabrielle and eventually defeated Melosa fair and square in a chobo combat. However, she refused to kill her opponent and later abdicated the leadership back to Melosa after she and Gabrielle left the tribe to continue traveling around the world.
- There existed various Cyanes who served as Amazon queens of their respective tribes at various points in time, including the original Cyane who served as the "Utma" of the Tretomlec tribe and the progenitor of the Amazon Nation,[11] followed by Cyane of the Telaquire Amazons during Hercules' late teens, as well as Cyane I, Cyane II, and Cyane III of the Northern Amazons.
